Once bitten, Forever in shame

I wrote this when I was crushin' on a guy in our school. I was so down that I resorted to writing my feelings down.

You find him attractive.

You have been eyeing him since first year. He's ahead of you for two years. He's in Engineering and you are in Education - world's apart.

He's cute. Every piece of him makes your flesh shudder. A sight of him makes you decide to evaporate right away; his stares pierce your whole being.

For you, his stride is a graceful spectacle to behold. Each word which came out of his mouth is a melody in your head - his voice, though husky, has become a music in your ears.

He often go to the the library. One of the seats in that wide table belongs to hi. He often read that thick book of his course with a ball pen in his left hand and a calculator in the right, papers with a lot mathematical equations, so much Xs and Ys.

You know him well. He's prominent in the Engineering Department because he's that good and an officer in one of the department's organizations. He knows you, too. Far so well, you want to take the gospel truth that he is a good catch. You're optimistic.

Days went. You smiles since you know he knows you and you think he will do the same, he failed you. No response. Bleakly, moments passed. You are ignored. You dropped your head in shame.

Yes, you're rejected. The idea you're anticipating is now forever doomed to extinction. A number of times you saw him at the lobby but all you got now, acquaintance and familiarity aside, were upstarts. Still, you liked him, but you are hopeful that may his responses will help you in alleviating the feelings away from your system - you wanted to move ahead.

The moment you're alone, you shed a tear and stomp your heart for being so blind of the truth. You scold yourself for being so stupid in admiring him.

Because now you knew it--

He's rejecting you.

After

------if you came to know me, you'll make a guess *I can feel it*. But please, if you have an idea who's this man be, keep it. Toss it away.

Now's the convention's over, napapatula na naman ako. I'm beginning to love this feeling since my stay at the resort dahil nakikita ko siya araw-araw kung 'di man sa bawat sandali.

Kaso, dalagang Pilipina eh, modest. Prim and proper kumbaga.

Wala. Wala akong ibang memorabilia niya kundi pictures lang.
At least man lang.

Love doesn't end there.

I'll cherish those days na and'yan siya sa aking harapan.
His face lingered in my mind every time I'm closing my eyes.

In my dream during the last night of the convention, I saw you.
Lumingon ka, natulala ako.
Bakit ba?

It's so hard to express a feeling you tried to suppress because you're a girl. The idea of girls should still submit themselves to proper comportment is what I have now. I know that a girl should wait for the one she wants to. Ngunit parang gusto ko ng kumawala eh. Ang hirap. 'yong gusto mo, ayaw sa'yo. O 'di kaya'y may gusto sayo ngunit takot lang lumapit. Pambihira naman, oo. Ano ba ako, multo at kayo'y natatakot?

No. I'm not paranoid yet. Just trying to be. This is not a heck. It's just the beginning of the suffering. Ayoko munang ipapasa-Diyos ito. Laugh. Come on! I can endure you're smirks while reading this.

I am hoping earnestly that, he may accept the request any hours from now. At kung hindi, goodbye Pilipins (with diin yong pagkakabasa). Sa drims na lang tayu magkita. wiiiii...

Hindi. No goodbyes. We have not started yet. Come hell or high waters, magkikita rin kami ulit. Go!

----One thing's sure: I'm wearing my heart on my sleeve again. Pero hayaan mo na. Alam kong 'di mo siya kilala. hahaha. At kung kilala mo man, 'wag mo siyang pagtrippang i-tukso sa'kin.

Facebook and Procrastination

We have too many things to say thanks to Facebook or most commonly known as FB. But there are also things that we should consider such as procrastination.

Once we are in front of our computer or laptop, we sometimes forget that we have left something undone or a work to start at or finish to. Yes. FB has helped in many ways: (1) we can reach out and communicate to our family and friends who were away from us; (2) we can trace long lost friends and relatives; (3) make new friends; and (4) socialize. But these should not overrule our lives and we should take them moderately. Unknowingly, we did not notice that we have consumed our supposed time to be used for finishing or doing our assignments or assigned tasks.

While it has helped us in keeping in touch, sharing our lives, nurturing relationships and even helping charitable organizations because of being active in the network, we were not able to perceive that we are using much of our time doing unnecessary and insensible things in FB. It is also atypical of a person to rather tend his ‘Farm Town’ or ‘CityVille’, or taking quizzes and answering questions that will reveal things like ‘Who Loves You Today?’ when he could spend his time engaging in a far more productive activities.

Facebook is an ultimate way of a person to procrastinate and the realization that one has spent his day playing ‘Mafia wars’ is a bitter reality. These habits are impossible to break and are addictive. In fact, it was found out in a social networking research that Facebook users who were working and were in their workplace log on in their accounts, putting their livelihood to jeopardy.

Now, take this: We should learn to manage our time and take social networking as a way of relaxation. But more of this is dangerous. We should put into priority on what needs our attention most before engaging in an activity which we think is worthwhile. TOO MUCH OF FACEBOOK IS A WASTE OF TIME.

K-12 Education System: Boon or Bane?

This article is our editorial in our campus paper project in Campus Journalism subject. I worked collaboratively with the editorial staff in our group to come up with this.

The K-12 Education Program or DepEd’s proposal of extending the 10-years of basic education program of the country is perhaps one the most drastic and controversial programs on the Aquino administration.

Such program aims to add two more years to the country’s educational system, making it 12. This proposal will supposed to be effective on the start of the school year  2012-2013 for Grade 1 pupils and first year high school students. It has a target to be fully implemented by SY 2018-2019.

Now, the question is: Is this K-12 model effective or good to Philippine education and to the Filipino families as well?

DepEd argues that this program will be a help in giving solution to the deterioration of the quality of Philippine education. However, some critics said that instead that this program will address the need of the country for educated and literate citizens, it worsens the situation. If K-12 will be realized, the government should have look after the  state of the common Filipino people which are mostly earning meager wages, not even enough to send a child to school. And to unemployed parents, this would be another burden and agony in their pockets.

The dire need of the country for educated youth doesn't mean that we need to add more years in education. DepEd should try to check what is wrong on the curriculum, administration, transparency and accountability of the officials assigned to supervise the department, and development of teaching materials essential in advancing the quality of learning of the students.

As long as the aforementioned reasons are not addressed to and remain unattended by the officials in the higher ranks, the worsening of the country’s education system will remain a problem. All efforts will be gone to waste.

Thus, either 10 years or 12 years could make much difference if there is proper implementation and carrying out of the goals of the country to produce literate, skilled, and competitive citizens.

My Stand on RH BIll

This is my stand on the RH Bill long debated in the Congress.

At first, I don’t care what this bill is all about. Let-the-legislators-do-their-part was my stand before. But now, it has become so contentious that even laymen talked about it and lately, I became one of them – so eager to know the truths behind this controversial bill.
Reproductive Health Bill (House Bill 5043) was proposed by Rep. Edcel Lagman with the thesis statement “Reproductive and Population Development Act of 2008. He believed that this bill will be the answer to the country’s problem on overpopulation and quality living. With his supporters, they professed that contraceptives are not life-threatening and this bill will help improve the condition of the Filipino families specially those who are in the marginalized sectors of the society.
This bill leads to many arguments and has opened-up discussions on the country’s culture, tradition, and even law. The Catholic Church stood against the bill because it introduces the legalization of the use of contraceptives which prevents reproduction or the creation of life. RH Bill has been peddling in the Congress for almost two (2) years now and still, the debate is not yet over.
The latest studies in scientific journals and organizations show that ordinary birth control pill, IUD, and RU-486 are abortifacient: they kill human embryos, who as such, human beings worthy of respect. Secular reasons established that contraception is objectively evil; leading social scientists showed that it has deleterious social effects: abortion, female impoverishment, illegitimate children, spread of AIDS, etc. The bill is based on a wrong premise since there is no consensus among economists that rapid population growth constrains economic development. The penal provision constitutes a violation of free choice and conscience, and establishes religious persecution.
This bill does not protect the health and welfare of the women in the country, instead, worsen the situation. Our country’s problem is not on the population. Every human resource is a gift and a needed factor in a struggling society to move upward. It is the system running in the government that is defective and is badly calling for reform.
I am against with the implementation of this bill for it opposes to the principles of God according to His plan and purpose for human kind. Rapid population is not really the cause of poverty. Why they can’t blame the case of poverty to the government? I don’t believe that there are no side effects of birth control pills and other contraceptives. If we will have this bill passed and approved by the court, then we would be like Western Countries who have progressive economies but has low morality.
Our country is a Christian nation. We should retain the integrity Filipinos has been keeping for quite a long time, and God’s law, that is, the right to reproduce and multiply.
